Why I Chose Chiropractic

Fredericton Chiropractor, Dr. Jason Fortier

My first personal experience with Chiropractic was at the young age of 13. I was shoveling ice off our driveway and after about 20 minutes I felt cramping all the way up my spine. Although I was not in much pain, I rushed in to the house concerned with this cramping, I took off my coat and looked in the mirror; I was severely crooked! I was devastated. At 13 years old, I thought I was now like this for life! My parents were regular chiropractic patients, so they set me up with an appointment right away. Dr. Joe explained that my spinal nerves were not happy and they caused the muscles to severely tighten; he said the chiropractic adjustments would take the stress off the nerves, relax the muscles and help straighten my spine. After a few visits, my spine was straight again; right then I decided to become a Chiropractor!

Practice Philosophy

I believe that we can all – be healthy by choice, not by chance. Different forms of negative stress (physical, chemical, emotional) force our bodies to adapt to a less than perfect environment, which leads to nervous system disturbance and ill-health. My goal is to help people identify these stressors and remove or reduce them, when possible, so the body can heal and deal with the stressors that we cannot control.

Most of us know that we need to eat right and be fit to have a better life; but we are often side tracked by quick fixes and shortcuts. There are no shortcuts; our lifestyle has the single greatest impact on our health. The sooner we all roll up our sleeves and do a bit more work to stay well – the healthier, happier and less stressed we will be!

I help people with this transformation through the Chiropractic Lifestyle: Be Fit. Eat Right. Think Well. Get Adjusted. These are more than just words that you will see around our Wellness Centre and on this website; these are words I live by. The synergy you get when you combine all of these ingredients into one lifestyle…watch out…it’s amazing! You become the best version of your exceptional self!

About Me

I believe that balance is the key to success, in all categories of my life; on the other hand, I also believe that ‘everything’ in moderation leads to – moderate health. If you want great health, do all things that are great for you – in moderation. Nothing matters more to me than quality of life: mine, my family’s, my friends’, and of those around me.

I am lucky to now work with the love of my life, Dr. Kelly VanSlyke! Dr. Kelly is simply a joy to be around, and she inspires me to do great things – everyday. I enjoy hiking, basketball, ultimate frisbee, squash, pilates, strength training, etc. I also love to eat, which drives my love for cooking! After a great day of exercise, work, and eating well; I enjoy reading, relaxing, and socializing family and friends. Dr. Kelly and I have a dog (Marshall) and a cat (Coley), and we plan to add children into our lives in the near future, stay tuned!

The Doctor Asks some important questions of interest to Fredericton residents - Chiropractor Fredericton The Doctor Asks...

What can a chiropractor do for asthma?
Many people think of chiropractic as exclusively dealing with the spine. But I'm interested in the spine because it covers the nervous system. Problems in the spine can produce problems in the organs and tissues controlled by the affected nerves—including those to the lungs and bronchial tubes. Find out how chiropractic care has helped those with asthma.
Which organs are extra?
You don't have any spare parts. Sure, we can survive without our tonsils, appendix, gall bladder and several other tissues, but each serves a purpose. We chiropractors recognize this. So the chiropractic approach I use in Fredericton is to reduce nerve interferences to the control and regulation of every tissue, organ and system of your body.
