Frequently Asked Questions About Chiropractic Care in Fredericton

We know that visiting a chiropractor for the first time can raise a lot of questions. Below you will find answers to the most common questions patients ask about chiropractic care at Fredericton Family Chiropractic. If you don’t see your question here, feel free to contact us or call (506) 472-7000.

Your First Visit

What should I expect at my first appointment?

Your first visit includes a thorough health history, a physical examination, and a discussion of your concerns and goals. Dr. Brayall will explain his findings and recommend a personalized treatment plan. Most first visits take approximately 30 to 45 minutes. You can learn more on our Your First Visit page.

Do I need a referral to see a chiropractor?

No. In New Brunswick, you do not need a referral from a doctor to see a chiropractor. You can book directly by calling us or visiting our Contact Us page. The exception is veterans using DVA benefits, who may need to follow the DVA referral process.

What should I wear to my appointment?

Wear comfortable clothing that allows you to move freely. Athletic wear or casual clothing works well. You will not need to change into a gown for most visits.

Chiropractic Treatment

What techniques does Dr. Brayall use?

Dr. Brayall uses a combination of hands-on adjustments and instrument-assisted techniques, including the Activator Method and Arthrostim. He tailors the approach to each patient based on their condition, comfort level, and preferences. He also has additional training in Sports Science and Human Performance as well as Functional Neurology. Learn more about our approach on the Chiropractic Care page.

Does a chiropractic adjustment hurt?

Most patients experience little to no discomfort during an adjustment. You may hear a popping sound, which is simply gas releasing from the joint. Some patients feel mild soreness afterward, similar to what you might feel after exercise, but this usually resolves within a day or two.

How many visits will I need?

This depends on your condition, how long you have had it, and your treatment goals. Some patients feel significant improvement after just a few visits, while others with chronic or complex conditions may benefit from a longer treatment plan. Dr. Brayall will discuss a recommended plan at your first visit, and you are always free to decide how you would like to proceed.

Is chiropractic care safe?

Yes. Chiropractic care is recognized as one of the safest non-invasive treatments for musculoskeletal conditions. Serious complications are extremely rare. Dr. Brayall conducts a thorough assessment before any treatment to ensure it is appropriate for your specific situation.
